WOL: Overview

The Wings of Liberty, America's Museum of Patriotism at Fort Campbell, will chronicle the country's patriotic history through the eyes of service men and women who have fought valiantly to preserve liberty.
The new museum and historical complex projected to open in 2010 will draw on the rich history of Fort Campbell, its units and over $35 million in artifacts housed there. Beginning with an overview of the country's patriotic history, visitors will embark on an interactive journey through the experiences of the soldier patriot.
An 80,000 square foot facility with an IMAX style theatre, the museum will be state-of-the-art in design. The main exhibit area will display vintage aircraft and military equipment used in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Afghanistan, and Iraq. The 33-acre rolling hill campus includes a Memorial Park, parade grounds, and helipad.
Among the notable individuals to put their support behind the museum project is former Senator Fred Thompson, who serves as chairman and spokesman for the $40 million campaign. Donors from the area surrounding Fort Campbell have already given funds to cover all of the campaign's administrative and fundraising costs. Funds generated by the current campaign are earmarked for construction of the museum and historical complex.
