MR. JAMES NICHOLAS PRITZKER HAS BEEN SELECTED AS OUR LEGACY PERSON FOR THE QUARTER...
Mr. James Nicholas Pritzker Mr. James N. Pritzker was elected to be honored as our quarterly Legacy person for becoming the first Gold Lifetime Member of the Fort Campbell Historical Foundation. Pritzker started his membership with the Don F. Pratt Museum Foundation in 1995 and has renewed his membership yearly. He has also made investments through his corporation to the Preserve the Legacy campaign to build the new, "Wings of Liberty" Military Museum. Mr. Pritzker is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of Tawani Enterprises, President, and Chairman of the Board of Tawani Charitable Foundation, Inc., and also serves as Commander/ Operations Officer, 38th Infantry Detachment (ROC), 38th Infantry Division, Illinois Army National Guard, Chicago. Tawani Enterprises is a private investment company which he organized in 1994. Among its involvement's has been the participation in a limited real estate partnership with properties in several Southwestern states, portfolio management and venture capitalization. Tawani Charitable Foundation, Inc. is a private foundation created by Mr. Pritzker in 1994. Its mission is to study and promote the ideal of the "Citizen Soldier" through financial support to historical, educational and other publicly supported organizations, publication of historical and contemporary literature educating the public in the concept of universal military service and the development of programs for individuals committed to scholarship and service "Citizen Soldiers." To date the grants awarded by the Foundation have supported awards and programs for ROTC units at the University of Illinois - Chicago, Norwich University Vermont, Los Alamos High School in New Mexico, a Youth Leadership Conference for Junior ROTC Cadets, and the 1st Special Farces Unit Scholarship Fund. Currently holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Illinois Army National Guard, Mr. Pritzker's military career began with his enlistment in the US Army in 1974 and subsequent assignment to 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry (Air), 82nd Airborne Division in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Following his commissioning as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1979, Mr. Pritzker served on active duty in the Army with the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 101st Airborne Division and VII Corps until his release from active duty in 1985. Since that time he has had various assignments with the Army Individual Ready Reserve and the Illinois Army National Guard, most recently as Historian for the Guard at State Area Command (STARC) in Springfield, Illinois and Director, Host Nation Support for the 33rd Area Support Group in Chicago. In addition to his business and military activities, Mr. Pritzker is extensively involved in philanthropic work, serving as a member of the Board of Trustees of Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont, a member of the Board of Directors of the Pritzker Cousins Foundation, Illinois National Guard and Militia Historical Society, the Army Historical Foundation, the United Republican Fund and the Board of Advisors to National Strategy Forum. His previous associations have included involvement on the boards of Chicago Commons, LaSalle Street Council, Teach America, the 131st Infantry Regiment Association and the National Guard Association of Illinois. Mr. Pritzker earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Loyola University of Chicago in 1979. He has three children: Tal 18, Andrew 8 and William 3. |
